HAUPPAUGE RESIDENT NAMED DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS AND BUSINESS FOR THE MORRELLY HOMELAND SECURITY CENTER

Ray Daugherty of Hauppauge, NY has recently joined the Applied Science Center of Innovation for Excellence in Homeland Security Research Foundation (ASCHS), as the Director of Programs and Business.

“Given Mr. Daugherty’s prestigious and substantial work experience on Long Island, we are positive that he will help us further our mission of creating an environment for innovation by facilitating the convergence of research and technology,” said Frank Otto, President of the ASCHS. “We are honored to have such a passionate and dedicated individual join our team and we look forward to an exciting future with him.”

As Director of Programs and Business, Mr. Daugherty will be responsible for getting the Foundation off the ground by developing business and fulfilling its mission.

For over 35 years, Ray Daugherty worked for BAE Systems, which was originally Hazeltine Corporation. Over the years, he worked his way up the company ladder to become President of the Advanced Systems Business unit of BAE systems, a position he held for seven years. After retiring, Mr. Daugherty formed his own company, World Class Journeys, Inc., to assist other companies that understood the importance of continuous improvement and sought improved performance through increased employee involvement.

In addition, Mr. Daugherty was the past President of the New York chapter of NSIA and a longtime board member and past President of the Fort Salonga Association, which he helped to grow into one of the most active civic associations on Long Island.

The ASCHS is being used to bridge the gap between the results of scientific and technological developments of new methods, processes and devices that have been developed, evaluated and tested at the laboratory level, and their deployment as integrated security solution sets for use in protecting assets against a terrorist threat. In addition, it has the added benefit of linking and applying basic research to Healthcare and Medical Device solutions, which are directly related to Homeland Security issues / events (i.e. detecting bio-pathogens, improving triage or remediating a terrorist event).
