The students from the School for Language and Communication Development (SLCD) showcased their works of art to a jam-packed crowd of more than 200 people at a special art exhibit at the JBS Gallery in Manhattan on Wednesday, March 3rd.
“What a special night for our children, their parents and our supporters,” said Dr. Ellenmorris Tiegerman, Founder and Executive Director of SLCD. “A heartfelt thank you goes out to Joseph Sprung for allowing us the chance to display our children’s artwork and utilize the beautiful JBS Gallery. We’d also like to thank Diane Lempert for organizing the show and our very own Art teacher, Heather Bregartner for bringing out the creativity so visibly displayed in SLCD’s talented student masterpieces.”
All proceeds from the Art Show will be used to increase awareness for children with language disorders and autism and benefit SLCD’s current programs and initiatives.
An SLCD student, Daiquan Stewart of Brooklyn, NY added, "Last night was one of the best nights of my life."
The School for Language and Communication Development provides special education services to children with language disorders including those along the autism spectrum continuum. SLCD’s program has grown from 36 preschoolers to more than 400 children ages 18 months to 21 years in elementary, middle and high school programs. As SLCD celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year, its mission to meet the special needs of children unable to speak or communicate still remains constant and the School’s motto “Language Learning for Lifelong Success” is continuously upheld.
