CELEBRATE GIRL SCOUTS’ 98TH BIRTHDAY

Guess who’s turning 98-years-old? On March 12th, girls throughout the world will celebrate the birthday of Girl Scouts, an organization that was built on strong values, friendships and traditions.

“We at the Girl Scouts of Nassau County cannot believe that we’re celebrating 98 years of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “Don’t wait and miss out on another year. Register your daughter today and give her the opportunity to learn valuable life skills and develop friendships that last a lifetime.”

On March 12, 1912 Girl Scout founder, Juliette Gordon Low, officially registered the organization's first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia. Today, there are more than 10 million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide.

Girl Scouts say “Once a Girl Scout, always a Girl Scout!” Former and current Girl Scout members, both girls and adults, are invited to an Alumni Event on Sunday, March 14th at the Hilton Gardens Inn in Westbury. The event will celebrate the Girl Scout Cookie Program with delicious desserts made by local restaurants using the famous Cookies. Girls and adults will have the opportunity to connect with one another and to strengthen their ties to the Girl Scout organization by learning about current programs. In addition, guests will be able to show their support for Operation Cookie, which sends Girl Scout Cookies® to military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan. For more information and to register for this event call Antoinette Agosta, 516-741-2550, ext. 216.

Girl Scouts of Nassau County builds girls of courage, confidence and character. Girl Scouting in Nassau County creates an accepting and nurturing environment, which gives girls a chance to build character and receive skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them throughout their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. With more than 22,000 girl and 7,000 adult members, Girl Scouts of Nassau County has become the preeminent organization and leading authority for girls. The organization, now in its 98th year, continues to make the world a better place one girl at a time.
