Mark your calendars for the Inaugural “Girls Go The Distance,” Girl Scouts of Nassau CountyWalkathon on Sunday, April 25th at Jones Beach. The two-mile walk complete with entertainment and activities will bring together families, Girl Scout Troops, community and local corporations to support the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Healthy Living Initiative.
“We hope our local community rallies behind our first Walkathon and commits to joining us for a fun filled day at Jones Beach,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “We already have walkers registered and can’t wait to raise more awareness for healthy living.”
The Healthy Living Initiative brings a unique perspective to keeping girls healthy. Girls define health in their own terms, placing as much emphasis on emotional and social well-being as physical health, nutrition and physical fitness. In addition to healthy eating and physical fitness, the Healthy Living Initiative also focuses on increasing girls’ self-esteem, media image awareness and how to develop healthy relationships.
Attendees will participate in exciting activities that can help them learn about healthy choices, while Girl Scout Alumnae and corporate teams can meet today's Girl Scouts, network with peers and be real-life role models for girls throughout Nassau County.
