GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY KICK-OFF COOKIE SEASON BY SETTING WORLD RECORD
After a grueling 14 hours in the Roosevelt Field mall on January 9th, more than 70 Girl Scouts came together as the Girl Scouts of Nassau County “Cookie Tower Build Team” and set the new World Record for the tallest freestanding cookie tower at six feet 1/8 inch.
The Cookie tower was created with just over 21,000 Thin Mints and Do-Si-Dos from the 2008 Cookie Season. With the guidance of Rebecca Goldberg from Cameron Engineering, the Girl Scouts worked in shifts to create the tower, while official witnesses documented and measured the entire process. In addition, all the cookies will be ground up and donated to a local farm to be used as feed for the animals or fertilizer.
“We are so proud of the Cooke Tower Build Team!” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. “It was a great day for the Girl Scouts who learned so much about teamwork, perseverance and goal setting.”
The GSNC Cookie Tower Build was held to celebrate the kickoff of the highly anticipated Girl Scout Cookie® season. The Girl Scout Cookie Rally was held at the Roosevelt Field Mall, the Broadway Mall and the Green Acres Mall where the Girl Scouts of Nassau County began to sell their famous Cookies to mall patrons. All Cookies contain zero grams of trans fat and include, Lemon Chalet Cremes, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Dulce de Leche, Tagalongs, Thin Mints and the newest Cookie, Thank U Berry Munch. The newest Cookie, Thank U Berry Munch, is a way for Cookie customers to give an extra special and memorable “Thank You” to others. The tartness of real Ocean Spray premium cranberries is combined with the sweetness of creamy white fudge chips and the texture of crispy rice gives this hearty cookie a satisfying crunch.
In addition to individual Girl Scouts selling Cookies, Booth Sales throughout the county will begin in February. It’s easy to find your Girl Scout Cookies® with our Cookie Booth Locator tool on our website, www.gsnc.org. Once again we will be offering our patrons the opportunity to purchase Cookies that will be shipped to our military troops overseas through the Girl Scouts of Nassau County program, Operation Cookie. Operation Cookie is done in partnership with global carrier DHL, who sends the Cookies to military personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan and at military hospitals in Germany. DHL donates all shipping costs as part of their way to thank our troops for their service!
