Social Media Maven Publishes Book

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Social Media But Were Afraid to Ask

Facebook and Twitter and YouTube! Oh, my! It’s not a mystery anymore that our communication has drastically changed. But how does this affect the way we do business?

Hilary JM Topper, MPA, President & CEO of HJMT COMMUNICATIONS, LLC, a full service boutique public relations, social media, graphic design and event planning firm located in Manhattan, Long Island and Rochester, NY, recently published a book entitled, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Social Media But Were Afraid to Ask. The book is designed to help people understand the new world of social media and learn about its uses for personal, professional and business development.

“It took nearly 10 months to research, write and edit this book,” said Ms. Topper. “As I started to learn everything I could about social media I scoured bookstores and the Internet, one thing was clearly lacking, a book that identified the most popular social media sites and discussed how to use them for business development. I wanted to fill that void and hence wrote this book.”

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Social Media But Were Afraid to Ask highlights the power of social media and how when used effectively, social media can help grow a person’s businesses. “My book analyzes nearly 20 different social media sites and goes in depth into how each site can be used for business gain,” said Ms. Topper. “More importantly, this book is specifically written for the beginner – those people new to the world of social media and looking for a book that will explain it all.”

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Social Media But Were Afraid to Ask is filled with detailed, how-to information on the complicated online world. Designed for marketing professionals, small business owners and non-profit organization executives, it describes how to use social media sites, blogs, microblogs and podcasts, reviews more than a dozen social networking sites, provides the importance of each site, discusses what it means to “Go Viral” and gives suggestions for handling crisis situations via the web. Ms. Topper adds, “Although the book is for the professional, it can still be utilized by every day people. I wanted to make sure it was readable and understandable even for parents looking to better communicate with their children.”

Ms. Topper has nearly 30 years of public relations, advertising and marketing experience. In March 1992, she founded HJMT COMMUNICATIONS, LLC. Prior to HJMT COMMUNICATIONS, LLC, Topper worked for Ogilvy & Mather/PR, Ruder Finn/PR and Hill, Holliday/PR. She also worked in the non-profit sector as the director of PR and development for two large NYC based agencies.

Ms. Topper has received numerous awards and honors for her accomplishments within the industry from PRWeek Awards, Long Island Business News, Newsday, Girl Scouts of Nassau County, the Communicator Awards, International Association of Business Communicators, Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women, Diversity Business.com and The Stevie Awards.

She has given numerous speeches and seminars across the country and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Hunter College and her Masters in Public Administration from Baruch College.
