Are You a Former Girl Scout? March 7, 2012

Garden City, NY March 7, 2012 –Are you or someone you know a former Girl Scout? Do you have fond memories of the friends you made, learning skills, and being around the campfire or going on an exciting trip?  Perhaps you earned the Golden Eaglet, First Class, Curved Bar or Gold Award? Don’t wait, contact the Girl Scouts of Nassau County as Girl Scouts celebrates its 100th Anniversary in 2012.

“It would be so wonderful to reconnect with past Girl Scouts living on Long Island and be able to include them in all of our upcoming 100th Anniversary celebrations,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director, Girl Scouts of Nassau County.  “This is such an exciting time for Girl Scouts everywhere and we are eagerly awaiting to hear from you and learn about your Girl Scouting memories.”

On March 12, 1912 Girl Scout founder, Juliette Gordon Low, officially registered the organization’s first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia. Today, there are more than 10 million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide. Girl Scouts of Nassau County will mark the 100th Anniversary by hosting a day long open house on March 12th from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Girl Scouts of Nassau County Headquarters located at 110 Ring Road West in Garden City, for all Girl Scouts (girls, volunteers, parents and alumnae). Activities will include a Sunrise Ceremony, the Wish Upon a Star display, and the opening of the time capsule (closed in 2000), as well as 100th Anniversary cake while they sing Happy Birthday to Girl Scouts.

If you or someone you know is a former Long Island Girl Scout, or a former Girl Scout who now lives in this area, or for more information on 100th Anniversary celebration events please contact Luci Duckson-Bramble at 516-741-2550 ext. 208 or visit www.gsnc.org.

Girl Scouts of Nassau County builds girls of courage, confidence and character. Girl Scouting in Nassau County creates an accepting and nurturing environment, which gives girls a chance to build character and develop leadership skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them throughout their lives, like strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. In order to get girls there, Girl Scouts has declared 2012 the Year of the Girl in a move to rally the nation around the cause of girls’ leadership. With almost 21,000 girl and 7,000 adult members, Girl Scouts of Nassau County has become the preeminent organization and leading authority for girls. The organization, now in its 100th year, continues to make the world a better place one girl at a time.
