In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day, NEFCU, a leading credit union serving all Long Island’s banking needs, is partnering with the Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) to gather children and parents for a special literacy event on Sunday, March 4th.
Edward P. Paternostro, President & CEO of NEFCU, along with special guests Curious George and Max the Bunny, from Nick Jr.’s Max and Ruby, will read to guests from noon to 4:00p.m.
“NEFCU maintains a proud 70-year history of supporting educational endeavors in the communities we serve. This eventprovides an opportunity to reinforce our commitment by encouraging parents and children to make reading a high priority,” said Paternostro.
Close to 1,500 children will have an opportunity to listen to classic storybook readings, create a Dr. Seuss hat, meet Curious George and Max the Bunny, and more. All activities are free with the LICM admission of $11 and NEFCU customers will receive a $2 discount.
“The partnership with NEFCU on this literacy event is a fun way to remind visitors of the joy of reading – as both an individual and a family activity,” notes LICM President Suzanne LeBlanc. “We look forward to sharing some of our favorite authors and characters with the community to inspire their continued interest in reading.”
All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City, NY. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $11 for adults and children over 1 year old. Under 1 year old FREE. $10 seniors. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply.
Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss, and everyday.
